LizstarTrek - Prodigy Season 2 Episodes 1 - 10

Every Sunday my Twitch subs and I watch Star Trek in my Discord. Here are my reviews and thoughts on each of the episodes as I see it. If you’re curious about a nerd’s views on Star Trek episodes, please read on, I go quite in depth with some of these episodes! I’ve watched some Star Trek before but not all of it!
This is an interesting one. Fully 3D animated, so the third animated Trek show, and Trek does quite well in animation, though it’s never been 3D. This one is ALSO… for kids! That’s not a bad thing. Some of the best shows of all time are for kids. I don’t expect this to be like, Avatar or Gravity Falls levels, but I expect this to be the real last bright spot in the Trek ouvre.
After season 1, I was quite impressed, so I’m also very ready for season 2! And considering how Paramount almost fucking killed it for no reason, I am even more intrigued. Cause I’ve seen what shit they let live.
Into the Breach, Part I+II - PRO 6/10

We start basically right before the final part of the last season. All the cadets are dragged out of classes and stuff in order to join Janeway on a new ship and mission. They’re all the same characters you love, really, though Jankom claims he is trying to be less rude.

Look who comes to pick them up! It’s ya boi. This really IS Voyager 2. One of these fucking days we’ll get sequels to DS9 stuff. But that day is not today, and I’ll accept Voyager 2. Instead of taking the Protostar from the last season, they go to the Voyager. Well, a new and upgraded Voyager.
Our kids aren’t the only cadets here. Some Alpha Squadron cadets too. ….We still have those? We didn’t disband that shit?!
They’re all seperated pretty much immediately and put in different sections of the ship. I mean, obviously. They’re basically lower decks on this ship and are in entirely different sections. Some of them are super into this, like Rok. After the last season, Dal has illusions of grandeur and is annoyed he’s not like, on the bridge making commands. Dude you’re 13.
Dal is in a skype call with his girlfriend in Canada (Gwen) who IS still here but is almost to her home planet to try and stop its civil war. Dal is worried this means she’ll make it so she never exists. As Rok said literally 6 minutes ago, “You clearly haven’t read temporal mechanics 101” cause that is not how this works in this universe.

They get hints that there’s something sneaky going on on this ship, and it’s in the restricted shuttle bay 3. They all sneak in just in time to catch the people in charge talking about how the mission is cancelled, cause of Jellico. Fucking JELLICO. The plan WAS to use a shuttle to go in the wormhole invented at the end of the last season and then retrieve Chakotay, but Starfleet is kinda worried about what it’ll do to the timeline, which is fair.

Gwyn shows up on her home planet, but Ascensia, the evil one from the previous season shows up. She’s OBVIOUSLY evil, but y’know, people being idiots. So she has to escape as they try to arrest her. Her escort who brought her here is blown up, and she’s now stranded. Whoopsies!

As they near the anomaly, they are met with a weird glowing orb that goes “JANEWAY, DON’T ENTER THE ANOMALY, GO THE FUCK AWAY”. A good sign. Also because of Dal being an idiot, they’re now in the thick of it too. In 41 hours they’ll need to go into the wormhole and rescue Chakotay. Aaaaand of course, they IMMEDIATELY narc on the fucking secret mission because they are incompetent, and one of the Nova Squadron peoples, a Vulcan named Majel (Eyyy) plans to tell Starfleet Command. Uh. Why? Just to be an asshole? Obviously if there was a secret mission, Janeway is in on it? I mean obviously they’re Nova Squadron so they’re just awful people in general.
Back with Gwyn, she meets with her dad. Or well, the person who would become her dad. He’s just an astronomer right now. She convinces him, and he seems like a friendly and nice guy who’s into knowledge and other worlds, but cause of that he has little power or sway cause his people are not into that kinda shit right now. He tells her about an ancient Vau Nakat practice that will get them to recognize her. IF SHE LIVES. These people are very Klingon.
Due to Majel being a fucking asshole, they accidentally launch the ship into the wormhole way too early. Whoopsies!
Who Saves the Saviors - PRO 6/10

We’re now split into THREE different settings. Rok and Murf are back in the present with Janeway. Zero, Dal, Jankom, and Majel are in the future, immediately captured and thrown in jail with Chakotay and his Aurelian XO. And finally, Gwen is still trying to stop her world from falling into fascism. She challenges Asencia to ritual combat, which involves going down a giant elevator while fighting with their heirloom weapons. It’s like a fuckign video game scene. It’s sick.

You know, all during Voyager’s watching, I kept hearing how much better Chakotay is in this show over Voyager. Well guess what? Still boring with no personality. Also easily distracted and hyper focusing on thing sthat don’t fucking matter. Does chakotay have undiagnosed ADHD? In this essay I will.
Also he just fucking takes the Protostar and tries to fly back into the wormhole to escape. This COMPLETELY changes the timeline, and is bad. It’ll overwrite Gwyn existing, and in fact, she starts to phase out like she’s Marty McFuckingFly. I’ve NEVER seen anything like that ever happen, but JUST because of this she loses the fight. Fucking Chakotay, ruining everything as always. Fucking Chakotay!!!
Temporal Mechanics 101 - PRO 7/10

Shit is bad. The timeline hasn’t fully changed yet due to some phlebtonium they set up, but it’s only a matter of time. Gwyn is McFlying in her father’s arms, and they have no clue how to fix this. But as they’re freaking out, they get a weird message.

They follow it to the chamber Gwyn is in a long time ago, and find she’s also there now. Dog, I dunno what they’re doing with time. Time travel is just calvinball now. I guess thats very Trek.

Back in the present, Gwyn is still kinda here. She talks to her father, who finds out he was a horrible asshole in the future. But he’s like “I’m not him now. I’m here for you.” So hey, it’s nice that he’s not warped into a fascist by the rigors of civil war and PTSD. Anyone can become evil :)
They have a plan, but to figure it out exactly, they need to do a 101 crash course on temporal mechanics. Janeway sends Dal a fucking video on his padd. It’s very silly. They need to build a time machine, but Jankom has been down in the dumps cause nothing is working how it should, even though he followed it entirely by the book. He solves this by percussive maintenence. “JANKOM POG IS BACK, BABY!”
They go back to the future, grab Gwen, and try to escape in their ship, which is broken to fuck, but suddenly becomes workable. They assume it’s cause of their mysterious benefactor who sent the original message. They make it back to the present. But who’s the mysterious benefactor???

IT’S THE SHADOWY FUTURE GUY FROM ENTERPRISE! (No, obviously not)
Observer’s Paradox - PRO 6.5/10

They’re all questioned after all of the nonsense of the last few episodes and are given restricted access. Dal is like “This blows!” Dude you almost fucked up the timestream. Just accept your failures alongside your victories. And now he wants to dig further. They DO find out Murf seems to know something, but no one can really communicate with Murf.
Majel is back to ignoring them and being a haughty bitch, despite everything they went through. I see where this plotline is gonna go. They are also pushing a Majel x Zero relationship which… would be queer rep, tbf!
Zero takes one for the team, distracting the Doctor by asking him about the holo novels he’s working on, as Dal and the others sneak out to try and talk to Murf. JUST TELL THE ADULTS ABOUT THIS.

They try and invent a way to talk to Murf. It doesn’t go great. But Gwyn discovers that the weird spiral that Murf made to TRY and communicate connects to… Chakotay. Fuckin’ Chokie. We are far from the spirals of our ancestors.
They get the whale in Cetacean Ops to help them out. THey think they can use her to communicate with Murf, and she agrees to immediately cause she really likes Rok.

Gillian the Whale translates for him and gives them “FIND ME” and some random numbers.
Meanwhile, Janeway has to close the wormhole due to Starfleet orders, which she does. That MIGHT mean they can’t ever save Chakotay, but… I mean, obviously not :P
Gwyn uses the numbers to go to a time between dimensions and finds Chakotay. THis also tells her how to find Chakotay, apparently. Using the spirals? I don’t geddit.
Imposter Syndrome - PRO 7/10

We start with a cold open of everyone chasing Dal and trying to murder him. We quickly find out what that was about, as 24 hours prior, we see they plan to “borrow” the shuttle, and are going to make holograms to sit around and pretend to be them.
While setting up the Holograms, Janeway comes in and the Holograms have to hide instead of just… beign turned off. They hide like how dogs hide, it is very obvious. There’s no way Janeway doesn’t know, she’s not THAT stupid right??

Obviously shit goes bad quick. The holograms think they’re real, and thus try and lock the real ones up and go off to steal the ship they wanna steal. Fun premise, especially cause it’s impossible to properly tell who’s who. All the holograms start to pair off and fight the real versions of themselves…. except for Rok. Who teams up with her hologram to try and find a peaceful way to solve this. Yeah, that makes sense.

With THAT solved, they need to try and get to the shuttle before its destroyed. Majel helps them escape, as she “knows who her real friends are”, and then she flirts with Zero. It’s actually pretty cute. THey all make it to the shuttle and steal it, blasting off and leaving their holograms behind… who then end up glitching and swapping personalities. Whoops!
The Fast and the Curious - PRO 7/10

The crew have 61 days till they get to the nebula, buuuut it can be much faster if they go through a transwarp conduit! Oh boy, MORE BORG. I sure do love modern Borg.

Actually its NOT the Borg! They’re attacked mid transit and dragged to a planet, where some Kazon take them hostage. Oh my GOD, fucking Kazon. The Maje they’re taken to is a bit weird. He will let them escape if they can beat his personally trained pilot in a race course. Zero and Murf escape and try to get the ship operational.
Meanwhile, shit is weird back on Voyager. Everyone is acting weird. And for some reason the adults mostly ignore it.
We get a big podrace-style race in flying skiffs. Everyone is split into teams of two. Dal is immediately competitive for no reason, and people might actually die. Hell, cause of his recklessness, Gwyn is almost destabilized temporally again. Also this entire time, the Maje continues to be really weird.
Twist, it turns out the Maje is being mind controlled by some evil AI! Zero and Murf free him from it. Basically, he was in charge of a pilot training course. The AI took over him and made him force racers to fight each other in death races over and over to find the best racer. And the AI has started stealing people from Transwarp to keep reaching her goal. She immediately takes over Murf, which is scary as hell.

Zero breaks out of their bonds and slams into the AI, destroying her, but also breaking their containment suit in the process. Zero is completely unable to control their body anymore, but at least they’re safe for now. Poor Zero ):
The episode ends with some weird time tendrils bursting into the Voyager, pausing time, and destroying the Gwyn hologram, getting angry it was just a hologram, and disappearing. I’m sure that won’t be a problem.
Is There In Beauty No Truth? - PRO 8/10

Zero gets a message from a nearby Medusan, who tells them about a planet of incorporeal life forms who can help them out and get them a more stable body. The incorporeals had formed a colony, and made physical bodies that allows them to experience senses. Their bodies let them see and feel…. it’s almost cult-like.
Back on Voyager, they find out about the holograms and chase after them. Janeway is piiissssed. Maybe you should have fucking TOLD HER, DAL?! You and her shared a body, it’s too late to be coy!

Zero gets their body, and the first thing they experience is Rok hugging them. Aww, that’s cute. They are VERY happy to finally experience senses. Time for things to immediately turn bad :)
During this big feast, it ends with “The Running of the Nazzamon”, where they focus on the most exhilerating sensation: Fear. Basically they run from this giant flying mantaray. I love it, it’s perfect, it’s my favorite thing in Star Trek now.

They all survive the ordeal, and Zero LOVES their new body. They also know that they can’t leave their friends, and even if their body dulls without upkeep, they will never abandon them. That’s sweet.
Back on Voyager, they recover the Gwyn hologram, which immediately has a panic attack like “IT’S COMING BACK FOR ME, I CAN STILL HEAR IT, HELP ME IT’S GOING TO KILL ME, GOD HELP ME”. Holy shit. Her programs been corrupted by the fucking Orz.
The Devourer of All Things, Part I - PRO 7/10

They reach the planet the clues led them to, but it’s out of phase. So they do some sciency stuff with the Heisenberg Compensators to land on the planet. The planet is… weird. They heard voices talking on the wind, see some old statues, and find a bank vault. Inside hte bank vault is Chokie… OR NOT!

God he looks weird here.
Meanwhile, Jellico is like “I ORDERED you to return to earth!” and Janeway does the fucking “Oh, I can’t hear ytou, I’m going through a transwarp tunnel!” I love her. Fuckin’ Jellico being awful as always> How did that guy become an admiral?
Anyways, Wesley has a LOT to go over and very little time. Wesley quickly explains to them about who he is, and what the Travelers are here for. He also explains multiversal theory to them. Thanks to all the problems, this universe is trying to exist in two states at once, and is unraveling entirely because of it. They also apparently invite in “cosmic scavengers” from outside time to eat dying timelines. The travelers deemed this too hard to fix, but Wesley likes this timeline cause y’know, his mom lives here, so he’s gonna fix it.
Wesley keeps mentioning sweaters for some reason. It’s absolutely a situation of like “Fuck, what kind of personality did Wesley have???? Um…. he wore sweaters!” This is barely Wesley. He’s now like, a neurotic fast talking weird guy. He’s not really Wesley anymore. Honestly, it’s just Wil Weaton pretending to be the Doctor from Dr. Who.

While trying to fix it, time freezes and the time scavengers show up to eat them. He calls them the Loom. Now Gwyn and Wesley are alone, trying to escape them. They manage to escape, taking the others with them, and find their way to… FUCKING GARY SEVEN’S OFFICE. CHRIST, GARY FUCKING SEVEN.
Meanwhile, Janeway shows up like “let’s go down and explore that planet :D” which is filled with clicking horrifying time eaters.
The Devourer of All Things, Part II - PRO 8/10

Lots of hints and winks at Gary Seven to nerds like me who’d care, except nerds like me who care are very annoyed by Gary Seven even existing. To me, he was basically a noncanon thing made by Roddenberry to try and use what little blood he thought Trek still had to jump to another show. It failed. And we ignored Gary Seven for years, but now we have him back in the prime timeline as something that’s real. Which means that episode where they’re just going into the fucking past for routine inspection.
We also find out that the Loom don’t just eat you, they erase you from existence. Any memories or thoughts of you, you are just ERASED from the timeline. Tysses and Majel beam down with a redshirt who is immediately eaten and erased horrifyingly. That’s SO fucked up. Tysses remembers him because he had a time displacer on him, so he figures out quickly what those things do. He tries to beam them up, but Majel stays behind to help her friends. Considering how she started this season as a hoighty toity shithead Vulcan, she changed REAL fast, and did it mostly because she’s crushing hardcore on the glowing orb.

Dal risks their lives to drop Majel into their hiding spot. She falls RIGHT into Zero’s arms, blushing as she realizes who’s holding her. Cute. They have to flee though, cause now the Loom know where they are.

But who comes to save the day? Fuckign Janeway. She fires phasers on the Loom, who just… ignore them and kill HALF her crew, erasing them from existence, again, horrifying. This is a kid’s show, that’s far worse than blood and gore IMO. But then she does THIS.

They knew the fucking assignment. As soon as Janeway puts on the tanktop and starts shit talking aliens killing her crew, you KNOW it’s over for them. She finds their phase variance and blasts them, getting them to chase her out of the ship. She crashes on the planet, still in her tanktop and a gun. GOD she’s hot. They knew EXACTLY what they were doing.
Wesley uses some time science magic to find a timelien where the six of them can solve this problem. He can’t find it. But when he accounts for Majel, he solves it. Also when they’re being scanned like this, they can see the future. He tells them all to close their eyes, Dal does not of course. And he realizes that he is not captian material. Seeing all these futures, he’s like “I don’t want these”. Bout time he realizes that.
Wesley sends them… somewhere. Then he sends Janeway back to her ship, and blows the planet up, disappearing. Welp, bye Wes.
The gang (and Majel, who is now part of the gang officially) land on a desert planet and find

NO.
NO.
ABSOLUTELY NOT.
YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MAKE CHAKOTAY HOT.
I REJECT THIS ON A FUNDAMENTAL LEVEL.
